what the screecher has been listening to lately
Luciano Berio: Laborintus 2 (1965)
Way-cool 1960's swinging tunes, precursor of both
his Sinfonia and later collage works by Louis Andriessen. Imagine
pink and orange polyester, false eyelashes, go-go boots, and Yeoman
Janice Rand's devastating beehive.
György Ligeti: Nonsense Madrigals
Brilliant modern madrigal writing, at once utterly
preposterous and stunningly beautiful. The Alphabet is my particular
favorite. Excellent chortling by the King's Singers throughout.
